Chemists are concerned with the synthesis, structures, dynamics, properties and transformations of all types of materials – organic, inorganic and biological. It is a subject from which some of the greatest innovations of recent times have come and its methods underpin the conceptual framework and methodology of biochemistry and molecular medicine. The subject is broad and challenging but immensely rewarding. You will begin your degree covering the traditional topics of Inorganic, Organic and Physical chemistry, together with Mathematics for Chemistry but will finish it as a scientist, capable of undertaking novel research and contributing to the wider scientific community. Even for those who do not seek to continue careers as chemists, the skills which you acquire are highly sought after in many different fields.
